Nurturing the Nurturers: Project HOME

Nurturing the Nurturers: Project HOME

“None of us are home until all of us are home.” This is the simply stated vision of Project HOME.  Founded in 1989 by Sister Mary Scullion and Joan Dawson McConnon, Project HOME has become a nationally recognized  leader in the fight against homelessness.

While best known for its work in providing permanent, subsidized housing for people who had been homeless, it also offers opportunities for employment, medical care and education for members of the Philadelphia community.

Insyte is proud to have partnered with Project HOME, an anchor of Philadelphia’s fight against poverty, for almost a decade. Since Insyte’s work with Project HOME began in 2015, it has since taken a number of forms. These have included:

    • Mission Nurture.  An organization-wide series of “Listening Forums” to give voice  to residents and staff in co-creating the culture that was wanted and needed to more fully activate Project HOME’s foundational values and its aspiration of being a “beloved community.”
    • Prototype Bootcamps. Workshops to activate teams to move from intention to action through concrete experiments in order to collectively realize the culture that was wanted and needed.
    • Leadership Development.  Theory-U based programs with Executive and Senior Management Teams to foster alignment and strengthen the teams’ ability to lead the organization through transition.  Some of the deliverables included a roadmap for next steps, commitments around accountability and relationship building, role clarity, and articulating the heart of the matter for future conversations and problem-solving.
    • Strategic Planning. Engaging all team members within one department to align on a shared “Vision for the Future” and strategies to achieve that future.
    • Coaching. Coaching for individual team members and small groups to support staff under tremendous emotional and organizational pressure when they bump into obstacles along the path of organizational transformation.
    • “Slowdown Sessions.”  An on-line community healing series launched to support the well-being of the community during COVID.

Here are some of the appreciations we have received from the PH team over the years…

I appreciated the…

      • The honesty
      • The planning and a great agenda
      • Reconnection
      • The one-on-ones, even though they can be hard
      • Hearing from the quieter voices
      • The co-creation to make this meeting happen.
      • Fun!
      • This exceeded my expectations!
"The education, the input, and planning that Insyte did. I learned from all of the different interactions I had... I really do think we have an incredibly talented, mission driven, visionary team of people and I am really excited to take this to the next step."
