One-Day Board-Staff Alignment on Strategic Plan: Rodale Institute
Rodale Institute’s Board and Executive Leadership had high hopes for their one-day strategic retreat: Rodale was at the precipice of immense opportunity to expand their impact in regenerative agriculture. What they needed was alignment among the board and staff around a strategic decision-making lens–and a values re-set.
Uncovering common intent in rounds of pairs grounded the day in relationship. Creating 3D Maps of both the current reality of the organization and its emerging future state pointed the way to a number of “Essential Elements” of the strategic plan. Board and Staff collaborated on first drafts for each of the Bold Statements, concretizing the wisdom that had emerged throughout the day into a description of the future vision.
The turbo-charged one-day retreat yielded the alignment and clarity Rodale was looking for. Rodale’s mission, vision, and values are embedded within each area of focus in its 5-year strategic plan— enshrining their strong organizational roots long into the future.
